Encapsulation
Encapsulation allows you to have an existing or new leaded light within a double glazed unit, meaning you can enjoy the design and colour of a leaded light without having valuable heat escaping through the single glazed panel. This not only improves the thermal efficiency of the building but also protects the design and craftmanship of the leaded light or stained glass.
Design Glass can assist you with any type of encapsulation, whether it’s a brand new leaded light that you wish to make into a beautiful window or existing stained glass that you want encapsulating.
Using our glass restoration service, we can fix any damages to original leaded lights before we encapsulate them into a double glazed unit.
Heritage Sites
If you live in a listed building or heritage site, encapsulating a leaded light may prove difficult. Fortunately, our sister company Touchstone Glazing Solutions specialise in double glazing for these type of properties. We can accommodate all type of situations.
Restoration
We can restore virtually any damaged leaded lights. This process involves cleaning the glass and replacing any breakages whilst retaining the beauty and narrative of the historic material. We also have an in-house artist who can replicate and restore painted and fired work.
Due to the historic and traditional work that we do, we will always strive to restore every leaded light as close to how it looked originally.
We also restore stained glass. Our artists will research and replicate any existing piece to ensure a perfect match. Using only a free hand technique, our in-house artists have re-created masterpieces over the last 40 years.
Double Glazing
All encapsulation is completed at our Yorkshire workshop. These can be any specification of glass or thickness down to 21mm overall, including any size or shape window. Please note our units are toughened as standard.
